Obesity and Bulimia

Obesity  is a serious medical epidemic which may lead to serious health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease.

Bulimia is a disease affecting mostly young women, although it is present in other demographics as well.

Treatment of Obesity and Bulimia should not be taken lightly and the staff at TNC  Weight Loss use the most up to date medications available to control the desire to eat.

We assess your BMI - Body Mass Index by looking at your height and weight to determine if you are at a high risk of developing serious medical  conditions.

We also check your blood pressure, your cholesterol levels and thyroid, if needed.

Our goal is to help you reach a healthy sustainable weight loss in the shortest amount of time.

OBESITY

Obesity, according to Wikipedia, is a medical condition in which excess body fat that has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.

Obesity may lead to diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease and other serious health problems.

Obesity is most commonly caused by a combination of excessive food energy intake, lack of physical activity and genetic susceptibility, although a few cases are caused primarily by genes, endocrine disorders, medications or psychiatric illness.

BULIMIA

Bulimia is a serious disease affecting mostly young women but present in other populations as well. Current accepted Bulimia treatments often consist of some combination of anti-depressants (SSRI's and others)  with and without modifications or psychotherapy.  If current treatments are successful, patients will stop inducing vomiting to control weight  and should feel better about themselves. Unfortunately, this Bulimia treatment often results in patients gaining weight and having obesity related complications later in life.

Recent reports  have demonstrated that medications to control appetite improve binge eating and bulimia. The Bulimia treatment used at PBMD Weight Loss goes a step further. It has found that by controlling the drive to eat, most patients with bulimia will stop inducing vomiting and live a healthier life. There is a great emotional benefit as well since the  patient feels in control of her or his eating. Thus bulimia can be reduced or eliminated almost immediately. The patient will not gain weight and may even lose a little, if overweight to start.  Improved psychological well-being can be expected.
